Baby Audio’s free Magic Dice is a one-button modulator with otherworldly results
Roll the dice on this generative freebie based on the brand’s Spaced Out multi-effect
Software developer Baby Audio is giving away Magic Dice, a free modulation plug-in with one button to leave your sounds up to chance.
Building on the success of Baby Audio’s last freebie, Magic Switch, this plug-in is based on Spaced Out, a multi-effects engine. Magic Dice harnesses Spaced Out’s capacity to create intricate reverbs, delays and echoes, and packs it into a miniature, one-button interface that randomly generates textures.
Spaced Out’s entire sonic palette is housed in this mini plug-in, giving you access to hazy space echoes and deep reverbs. Of course, you’ll have to roll the dice and see what comes out. Baby Audio promises that “the combinations are endless and you’ll never hear the same result twice.”
You can also adjust the mix of the effect so that you aren’t drenching your sounds in a sea of reverb.
The layout is the same as Magic Switch, which was a one-button iteration of Super VHS, offering a Roland Juno-style chorus.
To download the free plug-in, you simply have to head to Baby Audio’s website and enter your email to sign up to the brand’s newsletter. Magic Dice is available as a VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in, with full Mac M1 compatibility. You can also still get your hands on Baby Audio’s other freebies, Magic Switch and Baby Comeback.
